Hi, Because of very long boot problems I'm having (up to 2.5 minutes), someone suggested doing a repair installation using a downloaded ISO file and mounting it. On running Setup, it goes as far as checking for updates, then says "The PC doesn't meet Win 11 requirements. Can't install Windows on a USB flash drive using setup". This is on a PC that has been running Win 11 Pro International English since it was bought a year ago! Also, as far as I understand it, I don't want to use a flash drive, as i mount the ISO on the desktop and run it. Any help would be appreciated

I know, Mine is 64 bit Win 11 Pro English International. Actually, when you select it, it says it will work it out for itself

I have some ways:
1. Replace install.wim in Windows 10 ISO with Windows 11 and run setup.exe;
2.
Add the following registry to restart the machine and the installer will no longer check TPM and CPU

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetupMoSetup]

"AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU"=dword:00000001
3.
Run setup as administrator.exe Don't move anything at this time, open File Explorer, click Show, check hidden items and file extensions Open the C:\ $WINDOWS.~BT\Sources folder, directly delete the appraiserres.dll, and start the installation The rest is a regular operation.Of course you can delate appraiserres.dll in ISO before install.

Hi oldhelps,
I'm using the Win 11 ISO and my computer has Win 11 pro installed (for the last year from new)
The TPM and CPU requirements are met - the computer was built to use Win 11

I agree that @oldhelps suggestion should work, but that procedure is what one uses on a machine that has incompatible hardware. Yours is a 12th generation and is 100% compatible. That procedure would only be a bandaid for the current problem. Future versions of Windows would probably fail as well.

To try to find out why Windows is seeing your machine as incompatible, try running MS PC Health Check tool to see if it will lead you in the right direction.
How to check if your device meets Windows 11 system requirements after changing device hardware - Microsoft Support

Also make sure you have no corrupt system files that might be causing this problem. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

(Note-you can follow up with another sfc /scannow command to make sure that dism repaired the files)

For some reason, the ISO "thinks" you're trying to install Windows on a USB stick.
We need to figure out why it thinks this.

Do you have a USB stick attached, when attempting the In-Place upgrade?
Does the drive in your computer, have enough room?

Also, the ISO "thinks" your computer doesn't meet requirements.
Let's start with this...

Go here... GitHub Tool ...scroll down and download WhyNotWin11.exe.
Run the program and post a screenshot of the results.

It should look like this...

Hi Ghot again,
1. I did have a USB stick and a USB drive attached, but have removed them and it gives the same message
2. I've 318 Gb free on my C drive (the ISO is on the desktop)
3. I ran Whynot11 and it says there is no problem - see screenshot.

As I mentioned, the reason I was trying to do this was to try to sort slow boot times. However, I've now installed BootRacer, which shows sequential boot times ranging from 56 sec to 210 secs, with absolutely no changes in between! !So maybe not a messed up Windows? But it would still be nice to know why the repair doesn't work.

Replying to someone else above, I've already run chkdsk, scf and DISM, with no problems found

Assuming your SSD or hard drive is functioning properly... you need to do Option #2, here...

You should skip Step #5 in the tutorial.

You can "check" your C:\ drive with this (takes about 5 seconds)... CrystalDiskInfo
If this doesn't come back with "Good" or above 90% (for an SSD)... then we will need to fix that, first.

You should probably also post a screenshot of Disk Management, so we can see if there's any weirdness there.
These two partitions, need to be on the same physical disk...

00000 Default Windows partitions.png

And as mentioned in the tutorial, you need at least 20GB of free space on the Windows drive.
And, the ISO must match the Windows version (Home or Pro), and be of the same language.

If all this checks out, and you still can't do the In-Place Upgrade...
proceed with the instructions from @zbook, below.

@Tombar

When you do everything right, as it seems you are doing... and things still don't work, then it's time to call in "zbook"

There's a prehistoric problem, it comes from outer space.
It was created by the Martians to destroy the human race.
The In-Place Upgrade doesn't work, doesn't work at all
What can we do, who can we call?

Call Zbook, the "fixer".
Faster than a rocket, swifter than a jet
He's the mighty "fixer", he's the one to get.
Call Zbook, the "fixer".

Original cartoon intro

Note: I am serious. When normal solutions don't work... it time for some advanced troubleshooting.
And the BSOD (even if you don't have them), instructions would be the next step.

Goht and zbook

Goht
1. Option 2 is the one I've tried over and over again. It gets to the Check drivers Update screen, then no further
2. I'd already run Seatools, but have now done CrystalDiskInfo (shot 1)
3. Disk Management shot 2

zbook
Not run V2 yet, as I've already so much to post
Task Manager shot 3
Each time, i've downloaded the ISO to the Desktop, but not in a folder - is this important?

I might take a rest now, as I've been very badly depressed, with little sleep, for months and this is wearing me down. But thanks for the help. (I'd already typed all of this once and lost it!)

It looks like you're doing everything right.
Wait for @zbook to go over the logs. He may have more info afterwards.
